Accommodation Definitions

Bed & Breakfast - Double or twin rooms usually with ensuite. Property owners live on site & provide breakfast for each morning of your stay. Usually communal living spaces, but some provide private facilities.

Cottage - Generally one to three bedrooms, featuring double beds and single beds. Cottages usually consist of living & dining areas, fully equipped kitchens, some with full laundry facilities. Outdoor areas could include garden, courtyard, balconies ,decking or verandah opening to canal or water

Retreat - A retreat is a property with character and features, in a secluded or unique location, usually with water location or jetty.

Villa - Larger 'beach style or lake sytle' properties. Can be renovated, modern, contemporary , sometimes architect designed. Bedrooms can vary from one to four, but generally open plan living is offered with all amenities, some with spa baths. Fully equipped kitchens and laundry facilities. Outdoor areas could include large terraces, balconies, courtyards, jetties and waterfront locations.

Resort - A substantial property, usually purpose built, with budget to luxury facilities and great location. Catering for more than 2 guests with manager or operators living onsite. Some are self-contained

Yacht - A hire yacht could be utilised for sightseeing or charter. One or two cabins, galley, head and bbq. Skippers available for day use, or even overnight stays. on the lakes.

Floating Pontoon - A houseboat that is moored at a jetty and has all the conveniences of home. Usually up to two bedrooms, with open plan living area. Deck for relaxing. Live on the water.(not available for cruising)

Cabin - Usually smaller than a cottage, with open plan design. Bedrooms will be smaller, & kitchen facilities will be limited. Some cabins may be attached to another property or situated in a caravan park.

Family - Properties in this category can also be any of the above types ie cottage, retreat, villa etc.  The 'family' term refers to properties that can cater for, or are best suited to families. This can either be room configuration, location or facilities.


Price Groups

Budget - modest, quaint properties that provide basic accommodation & facilities. If self-contained small kitchenettes are likely.(ie toaster ovens or microwaves only) Budget can apply to all accommodation categories

Mid-range - Accommodation comprising of all facilities with living areas, fully equipped kitchen & some extras, like location or views and good looks.

Luxury - Expect the best in a luxury style property, usually with prime positions, either lake frontage, with a jetty or use of or canal setting with jetty use. Quality furnishings and fittings throughout.
